September was a blur for me, and though I’m safe and healthy, I’ve learned firsthand the rollercoaster of emotions that come with being told devestating health news.
Fortunately in my case the family doctor who told me I had a 75% chance of having a type of cancer with a typically poor prognosis was entirely wrong (instead of saying he didn’t understand my test results, he winged it). However, due to complications for the same issue, I still ended up in the hospital for multiple days. I’m home and recoverying and all things considered, well.
And though Canada has many healthcare issues, I feel fortunate to live in a country with free/reasonably priced healthcare. I was also very happy to have started a critical illness insurance plan 3 months prior to all this. Though my coverage is only for $50K at the moment, it is still better than nothing if I were to need to leave my job.
(Side note: During this ordeal where I thought I likely had cancer, I realized that my critical illness insurance had a 90-day cancer clause, meaning that if I was diagnosed with cancer within 90 days of me taking out the policy, it wouldn’t be paid out. What timing! It worked out that I would have been covered within just days. But it was definitely stress I did NOT need at the time.)
Anyway, I took time off from this blog in September, and I’m picking things back up in October.
Happy saving,
Squirrel
