April spend & goals check in

Hello! Time to check my spending in April.

I definitely spent more this month than I predicted I would. This was due to four main reasons: not predicting an increase of costs in some areas, simply spending too much in some areas, spending on a few unanticipated life admin expenses, and paying a decent amount for health related costs.

The one area I want to focus on is the area where I have the most control: simply spending too much. Groceries and eating out were the main culprits. (I do love food!!) In May, I’m going to focus on those areas.

I have a plan to emphasize making freezer meals ahead so there is less temptation to walk to the closer (more expensive) grocery store for grab-and-go food or frozen pizzas. Eating out wasn’t too far off my target, so my focus will be on keep my groceries in check for May.

I had back issues this month, so my health & personal spend was mainly on resolving those, plus a bit of pampering. This will definitely not be a monthly expense going forward.

That’s a spicy overspend!

April investment contribution

I made the $2,500 goal! Sweet! my plan is to keep it up, basically on auto-pilot and check in and recalibrate if necessary in a few months.

April goal check in

  • Track my expenses PASS
  • Meet my budget targets NOPE
  • Blog at least once per week this month (kind of a cheat goal since we are mid-way through the month already) PASS
  • Finish The Value of Simple by John Robertson PASS (I read the parts that applied to me, and it certainly helped me better understand the practical side of investing in ETFs. I’ll keep it as a resource for sure.)
  • Better understand ETFs and consider a few options for me to invest in PASS
  • Write 500 words in my novel PASS (I technically didn’t do this until May 1st, but I’m going to call it a pass)

I’ll blog soon with my May 2022 goals.

Happy saving,

Sovereign Squirrel
