November 2022 expenses and investments + hitting my $50K goal early!

This was a spicy spend month! There were even more expenses than listed here from having been in the hospital, but luckily those were covered by my workplace health insurance. I made 2 big education purchases: a course on teaching you how to invest, and a fiction writing course that I am SUPER excited to be a part of, coming up in January. I had a big expense for my career/side hustle, and takeout/eating out was a bit of a splurge this month. All things to rein in next month.
I invested a bunch this month. Because my expenses + investment contribution amounts exceed my take-home salary I am making up these extra payments by using some of my slush fund savings. I actually have a decent amount of money that is sitting in a savings account (separate from my emergency fund) that I am slowly using to contribute to my investments. So I’m not worried about this overspend now, but I do need to keep a close watch on my spending because cashflow management is important and I wont always have so much in my slush fund.

Goodbye, inflated MERs! The big news here are those 2 big beautiful $0.00 signs! Why? Because they are showing that I finally transferred all my money out of my Big Bank’s mutual funds and rolled that money over into my online brokerage account! I made two big purchases of VEQT in my RRSP and TFSA brokerage accounts using that rolled over money (kinda scary to do!) and I also was able to contrbute $2,985 on top of that. I’m super stoked about that and it was much simpler than I had imagined. I’m going to write a detailed post about that this month.

And the grand finale? I hit my $50K networth goal early! My aim was to have this by the end of the year, and here we are 1 month early. After having my bank account hover around $20K for years, I am shocked that I was able to acheive this by just setting up some automated systems, educating myself, and sticking to my plan. It’s truly incredible to me.

I’m considering buying myself an espresso machine to celebrate. (I wish I was joking.)

Happy investing 😉
